Many general questions have been covered within the UltraHDMI FAQ section. For any questions not covered within the FAQ please contact BadAss Support via email.
UltraHDMI is designed to connect to modern TVs and monitors. It generates several different resolutions, and like all the other options, can be configured with the on-screen menu.
All the settings are configurable with an on-screen menu overlay that can be accessed during a game with a button combo.
Every aspect of operation is fully configurable. Just want to play games? It works fine from the get go. Power users can tweak every setting to their liking.
Optionally, it can apply a set of retro filters to make it "feel" more like a tube TV: scanline bleed, nonlinear brightness curve, HV anode sag...
You can turn off all the processing for a zero-delay signal with less than 100 nanoseconds of lag. Otherwise, latency averages 1 frame (16ms).
UltraHDMI is sold by Retroactive only to installers due to the nature of its design which incorporates flexible PCB soldered directly to the pins on N64's Reality Co-Processor (RCP). Therefore, it is the responsibility of all installers to ensure a safe and proper console installation is performed. Please note: UltraHDMI requires use of a MiniHDMI cable which you must provide.
By purchasing this service, You, "The Buyer," will ship your N64 "console only" in fully functional working condition to BadAss Consoles and also pay the return shipping charge. You will receive an email shortly after purchase with information on where to ship your console.
BadAss Consoles, "The Seller," will provide the UltraHDMI KIT, perform pre-installation testing of your console, perform high quality precision installation, and perform post-installation certification testing.
Note: No pre-installed N64 consoles are available for sale at this time. You must provide your own console.
PayPal does not offer buyer protection for services performed such as installation service. Watch in 1080p, 60fps! Sorry, scanlines will look terrible on smaller screens. Audio DSP is not finished, explains the scratchy sound. http://ultrahdmi.retroactive.be , initial site is going live soon. picture: http://retroactive.be/img/i/ra551cb300630f4cabf.png http://retroactive.be/img/i/ra5529d8ebb1a6b1ce5.jpg

It was absolutely worth it! I've been really into picture quality since I got my 65" TV, and playing my N64 through composite video was so horribly blurry and muted. I hated it. This mod has absolutely renewed my enjoyment of my N64 games. There's also a "Retro Mode" that emulates the appearance of a CRT, which is great for games where the camera angle is constantly changing, like 3D platformers. It's so incredibly customizable, you can tweak every little detail about the picture output. The audio is cleaner too! Can't recommend it enough!

The ultraHDMI was a great addition to my N64, the picture is clear and the audio is perfect. The mod was done quickly and in a timely manner. I am very happy with the service, and highly recommend it.

When I first heard about this, I was a bit skeptical - thinking it was just an RGB mod with a built in HDMI converter, but after seeing it in action on My Life In Gaming's RGB205 episode I was sold!
Marshallh did a great job with this. It really makes the N64 look awesome on a modern HDTV! 2D elements clean up real nice with the pixel filters, though they really highlight the dithering in some graphics. Plenty of customization options to fiddle with to suit your personal preferences too. I look forward to the possibility of future improvements through firmware updates.
BadAss Consoles's installation work and communication during the process was professional. High quality craftsmanship overall. Absolutely no complaints.

Its a bit pricy but well worth the money for a quality installation and outstanding product.

The installer was very helpful in terms of answering all questions I had before purchasing the mod. And the installation work looks great; you could believe the mini-HDMI port was always a part of the N64 if you didn't know better!
The mod itself is also great. Easily the best currently available way to play N64 on a modern TV if you want to use an actual console rather than an emulator.

After testing the product, it worked very well and as described, however I kind of wish that the creator of ultra HDMI would have implemented additional graphics filters that certain emulators contain to smooth out and add some extra detail to the graphics. the added filters made everything more pixelated on my hd tvs but I knew what I was getting when i purchased it so im happy with it and badass consoles did a great job installing it. Just my two cents.

I'm really in awe of the quality of video that comes out of the UltraHDMI. The digital video output coupled with the image restoration algorithms in the unti show tons of little details that an S-video connection never provided. For example, even in early games like Mario 64, where simple textures were the norm, Mario's face in the upper left of the GUI has tons of subtle shading that comes across as one color blob with other outputs.
Obviously, we're not talking emulator quality, as the N64 is still rendering in 240p or 480i internal resolution, and upscaling to higher resolutions, but if you want to play on the real thing, this is as good as it's ever going to get! I personally feel like there's a time and place for both the original nostalgia of playing on the real hardware with the original graphics and textures, and playing on an emulator with replaced textures and higher internal resolution. For the former, the UltraHDMI is well worth every penny!
The hybrid scanline option is incredibly well done, and I never expected CRT emulation options, but they're there, down to the most subtle blooming options to simulate old CRT TVs with bad voltage regulators. With all the available settings, you can tweak it from "very crisp, made for LED TVs" down to "feels like I'm back on a tube TV in the 90s;" I'm blown away by the amount of tweakability in this thing.
As far as install service, BadAss Consoles did a great job - the service was very quick, even around the holiday rush, and the fit and finish are fantastic - it really looks like the UltraHDMI's micro HDMI port was an original part of the N64.
Thanks to MarshallH for making a truly badass must-have addon for all the N64 fans still rocking original hardware out there, and BadAss Consoles for a great install!
